Ferraro, Jeter Earn America East Honors
March 13, 2008
Springfield, Mass. - Senior Dana Ferraro (Middlesex, N.J.) and freshman Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) were named third-team all-conference and all-rookie, respectively, at the America East conference awards banquet held at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Thursday. In addition to being named to the all-defensive team for the second time, Ferraro joins Sherry Jordan '04, Jessica Smith '07 and Mykeema Ford '08 as three-time all-conference selections. "I'm happy that the coaches in the America East Conference have recognized the efforts of two outstanding players in Dana Ferraro and Kirsten Jeter," head coach Michele Cherry said. "Dana has gone out every game over the past four years and done the dirty work for this team. To be named to her third All-Conference team in a row is a credit to all the hard work and determination she has put forth not only during this season, but throughout her career. As for Kirsten Jeter, I can't say enough about how proud I am of her. She only got better as the season went on. In conference games, she not only led our team in scoring, but she led all rookies in scoring, was second in rebounding and was tenth amongst all players in steals. As her career moves forward, she will only get better and better."
Ferraro grabbed an America East leading 8.7 rebounds this season, making her just the third player in the history of the conference to lead it in rebounding for at least three seasons in a row. In addition, Ferraro became just the second player in Stony Brook basketball history to record 1,000 career rebounds. She also averaged a career-high 8.5 points per game. Jeter, an All-Long Island selection as a high school senior, was perhaps the Seawolves' most consistent player. She was second on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game and her 4.3 rebounds per game ranked third on the team. No. 9 Stony Brook faces No. 8 Maine tonight in the first round of the America East Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 pm. |
