Barbuto, Viola Named To NSCAA All-Northeast Region Teams

Dec. 16, 2007

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse, N.Y.) and sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region teams, the organization announced on Friday. Barbuto was named to 12-person first-team while Viola earned a spot on the second team.

A first-team All America-East selection, Barbuto appeared in all 18 Seawolves games and tied a team-high with three goals including two game-winners. She also led the team with 28 shots on goal and was second on the squad with seven points.

Viola set a school record with 10 shutouts which included a scoreless streak of 863:33, which spanned 10 games including eight straight shutouts and ended as the seventh longest streak in NCAA women's Division I history. Viola also ended the season with a save percentage of .878, ninth best in the nation.

The Seawolves finshed the season 8-5-5 and hosted their first ever America East tournament game, a 2-1 victory over Maine.
