Men's and Women's Tennis Play Final Home Matches Saturday

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's men's and women's tennis teams play their final home matches of the season tomorrow when they host America East rival Hartford. It will also be the final regular season match for 2008-09 for the Seawolves who will open play at the America East Championships next week in New Haven, Connecticut. It will also be senior day as two seniors, Victoria Vovsha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Sandy Wijeratne (Melbourne, Australia) play in their final home matches. The matches will begin at Noon. Both the Stony Brook men's and women's teams are on a roll heading into the final weeks of the season. The men's team has won three of its last four matches while the women's squad has rebounded from a slow start in the spring to win six of its last seven. For the men freshman Artem Baradach, sophomore Ilan Shvartz and freshman Ivan Rummel have all won four straight singles matches. On the women's side senior Vicky Vovsha has won six straight singles matches to lead the team, with senior Sandy Wijeratne winning seven of her last eight and sophomore Claudia Sanua taking five in a row. In doubles play the duo of Vovsha and freshman Fanny Charliquart has won eight straight matches.
